A Letter from Barbara Buono

I just wanted to send you a quick note now that the election is behind us . Last night I spoke with Governor Christie, congratulating him on his re-election.

Now, I know we have our differences, but when it comes down to it, we’re both parents who just want to see a better future for our children. And we both take pride in the fact that we live in a nation where we can all respect and uphold the democratic process.

I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you’ve done for us these past ten months. We began this journey knowing that it wouldn’t be easy. But each and every one of us believed it would be worth it. That is why I am so thankful for all those who came into the offices and made phone calls after work, those who spent time knocking on doors, and those who chipped in when they could.

This was never about the polls or the pundits.

From the start, it’s been about people. From longtime partners Dave and Rich, who I witnessed getting married a few weeks ago, to our DREAMers, brilliant young women and men like Gonzalo and Rodrigo, who want nothing more than a shot at affordable tuition rates like the ones I had at Montclair State and Rutgers Law School.

The bottom line friend, is that this election was about you. From the bottom of my and my family’s heart, thank you for all you’ve done to support our grassroots campaign. This battle might be over but, rest assured, there will be other battles for our shared progressive values and together we will stand up and continue the fight for all we believe in.

Thank you so much,
