Did you know about the 2014 NJEA Equality Champion Award, which honors members who have been champions in defense of human and civil rights? This prestigious award is for educators who have significantly affected education and the achievement of equal opportunity for those facing discrimination due to their sexual orientation or gender identity.
The award is presented by the NJEA Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SO&GI) Committee in conjunction with the Minority Leadership and Recruitment (ML&R) Committee.
AND…I am SO proud to announce that our very own Robt Seda-Schreiber is this year’s recipient of the Equality Champion Award for all of his work with the students in the “Gay Straight Alliance” and so much more!
As Chris Carpenter said in his nomination of Mr. Schreiber, “ GSA is alive and flourishing at Kreps! Students are engaged, curious, and most of all interested in making their school a place of respect for everyone. Robert has been instrumental in all of this. He fought for the group, educated his school on why it was not just necessary but critical for students to have access to a group that is a safe space for all and the ripple effect is growing. The conversations have led to school wide activities and conversations that are helping students decrease bullying and LGBT stereotypes. His students feel safe to explore who they are and show others knowing that their school is open and welcome to diversity. We need more Roberts in this world.”
Congratulations to Robt!
