What a night! The attendees at this year’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration all agreed that it was an amazing night…and how darn good we all looked!
Joining me in the evening’s festivities were vice president Chris Carpenter, Human and Civil Rights committee member Robt Seda-Schreiber and his FANTASTIC wife Cindy, school leaders Nicole Francis and Sarah Vandervort, and our EWRSSA sister Vindhia Gordon.
The evening began with a thrilling concert from the choir of the Cicely Tyson Middle School. Wow! I couldn’t see them at first and then spun around in my chair and almost fell on the floor when I realized that THOSE voices came out of the mouths of middle schoolers! It was my own “The Voice” moment!
Then the winner of the Humanitarian award, Edith Savage Jennings shared stories from her life. Google her…you will be amazed.
We heard from the Hedgepeth – Williams family and learned about their contribution to civil rights and equality…and received a book about it to share with students.
Phylicia Rashad shared inspirational words from her heart and Jeffrey Osbourne shared grooves from…well, other parts.
What a wonderful celebration of Dr. King and all of us who will NOT give up the fight until there are for civil rights for everyone.
